Neil Dawson

A full time sculptor since the 1980's, Neil Dawson has designed and installed large scale outdoor artworks around the world including Shanghai, Manchester and Kuala Lumpur. Based in Christchurch, the city of his birth, Neil has contributed to the art scene with a number of notable sculptures, the most recognisable being 'The Chalice' in Cathedral Square and 'Fanfare', a sculpture that was originally suspended from the Sydney Harbour bridge to welcome in the new year of 2004. In Auckland, 'Throwback', has stood in Albert Park near the Auckland City Art Gallery since 1992. Suspension has been a recurring theme in his outdoor work with the sculptures floating above the viewer hanging by a network of wires requiring a level of structural design to be in incorporated into the composition.
